Plexiglass painting The 4-step plan for cleaning Plexiglas

Plexiglass is not the same as glass, both in function and maintenance. Plexiglass is not cleaned in the same way as normal glass. Where you take a lot of soapy water with glass and scrub firmly, this is not possible with a plexiglass painting .

Plexiglass is very sensitive to scratches, so you have to handle it very carefully. We will tell you how to clean your plexiglass the right way.

Cleaning Plexiglass, the necessities :

  • washing up liquid
  • Bucket of hot water (not too hot)
  • Antistatic cleaner
  • Microfibre cloth
  • Sponge

Cleaning Plexiglass: to do

1. How do you start?

Grab a bucket of warm water and add a few drops of dish soap. Use plenty of water when cleaning and only a few drops of dish soap. The little bit of cleaning agent is only meant to loosen the dirt.

The water, on the other hand, is intended to displace the dirt and get it away from the plexiglass painting. That's why you don't have to use so much detergent.

2. Rinse out!

Make sure you don't go back and forth over the plexiglass painting too often. Wring out the cloth after each time back and forth on the Plexiglas. This way you ensure that you remove the dirt from the cloth. Wet the cloth again and so on. In this way you ensure that you do not smear the dirt and that you do not scratch your Plexiglas. Of course you don't want that!

3. Use anti-static cleaner

Now comes the antistatic cleaner. After you've cleaned the Plexiglas, put some antistatic cleaner on a microfiber cloth. Wipe it over the plexiglass painting. The word says it all, the anti-static cleaner ensures that the Plexiglas does not become static. This prevents dust from sticking to the Plexiglas. In addition, the Plexiglas stays clean longer if you treat it with antistatic cleaner.

4. Let the plexiglass dry

Let the plexiglass painting air dry (about 15 to 30 minutes) and voilà! You cleaned your plexiglass.

Cleaning Plexiglass: NOT to do

In addition to products that are good for cleaning your plexiglass painting, there are of course also a number of products that are not good for plexiglass at all. For example, never use chemical agents such as:

  • benzene
  • Thinner
  • Acetone

These agents ensure that the surface of the Plexiglas becomes soft. This will ruin your plexiglass painting, which would be a shame. So stay away from the chemicals as much as possible and use a nice old-fashioned soapy water.
